Prithvi Shaw attacked for refusing selfies in Mumbai’s Oshiwara, his friend’s car damaged. The car of a friend of cricketer Prithvi Shaw attacked in Mumbai by some individuals after the batter refused them a selfie at a five-star hotel on Wednesday night. Following that, Oshiwara police in northwestern Mumbai arrested eight people for attacking Shaw’s friend’s car outside a five-star hotel.

What exactly happened?

Ashish Surendra Yadav, a friend of Shaw’s, filed a complaint saying that the suspect followed the car and threatened to file false charges if money wasn’t given. Shaw had gone to a five-star hotel in Santacruz, also in northwestern Mumbai, for dinner when the unidentified accused approached them and demanded a selfie. Shaw took selfies with two people, but the same group returned and asked for selfies with the other accused.

This time, Shaw declined. When they insisted, Shaw’s friend complained to the restaurant manager. The hotel manager asked the accused to leave. This infuriated them, and when Shaw and his friend returned to the hotel after dinner, some people were standing outside with baseball bats.

The accused used baseball bats to break the front and rear windows of the car belonging to Shaw’s friend. Hotel staff gave the police the names and phone numbers of people who had taken selfies with Shaw. Sana alias Sapna Gill and Shobhit Thakur identified as the two suspects. The police have stated that they are looking into the incident. According to an official, a case filed under sections 384, 143, 148, 149, 427, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code after Prithvi Shaw attacked in Mumbai.

After India’s home series against New Zealand, Prithvi Shaw took a break from competitive cricket. Shaw picked up in the T20i squad for a three-match home series against the BlackCaps in January. However, the Mumbai opener was not selected for the starting XI. Shaw has been performing brilliantly on the domestic circuit. In six Ranji Trophy matches during the 2022-23 season, the Mumbai captain scored 595 runs, including a century. When Shaw hit 379 against Assam in January, he broke Sunil Gavaskar’s Ranji Trophy record for the highest total by a Mumbai batter (340).
