PM Narendra Modi’s mother, Heeraba Modi, died in the early hours of Friday at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center in Ahmedabad. Her mortal remains were cremated in Gandhinagar at a crematorium by her son, PM Narendra Modi, and his brothers. She had been in the hospital for about three days and was 100 years old. PM Modi had paid her a visit in the hospital the day before. Modi rushed to Ahmedabad to attend his mother’s final rites.

According to government sources, his pre-scheduled events in Kolkata — the flagging off of the Vande Bharat train, other railway and Namami Gange development projects, and a meeting of the National Ganga Council — will take place as planned today.

After his mother’s sudden demise, PM tweeted, “When I met my mother on her 100th birthday, she told me one thing work with dedication and a sense of duty, and lead your life with purity.”   Similarly, Modi’s father, Damodar Modi, had departed earlier and would have turned 100 today had he been alive.

On June 18, this year, Heeraba turned 100, and Modi wrote an emotional tribute to mark the occasion, recalling his mother’s laborious life in their family home of Vadnagar, a humble abode that, he said, she decorated with self-made artifacts. PM was recently seen in Gandhinagar washing Heeraba’s feet and performing puja to commemorate her 100th birthday. To memorialize the occasion, he said, “All that is good in his character can be attributed to my parents.”

Modi used a specific incident in his blog to highlight Heeraba’s fortitude “ My father’s close friend used to live in a nearby village. My father brought his friend’s son, Abbas, to our house after his untimely death. He stayed with us until he finished his studies. Mother was as affectionate and caring to Abbas as she was to the rest of us siblings. Every Eid, she would prepare his favorite dishes “The Prime Minister stated. He remembered Heeraba’s early lessons on cleanliness, water, and food conservation.

Condolences on the death Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, stated, “I am deeply saddened by the death of Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi’s mother, Pujya Hiraba. Pujya Hiraba exemplified generosity, simplicity, hard work, and high life values. I pray to God to grant his soul inner peace.”

Heeraba was born in Mehsana in 1922. Modi last saw his mother on December 4, just before the Gujarat elections, when he went to Gandhinagar to seek her blessings. Heeraba was frequently in the news. After Modi declared demonetization in 2016, she was seen standing in line to withdraw cash from ATM. She also made headlines when she agreed to take the COVID vaccine. Moreover, she also voted in all elections on a regular basis.

Congress leaders have also expressed their condolences on the death of PM Modi’s mother. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi both expressed their condolences over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother’s death.

Family members of PM Narendra Modi’s mother have thanked everyone for their prayers and requested people continue with their regular duties, saying it would be a fitting tribute to her.
